FILMMAKER BIOGRAPHY

HYEJIN “GRACE” PARK

I'm a film director, screenwriter, and editor—and a USC graduate—drawn to stories that explore identity, resilience, and the quiet beauty of life’s struggles and triumphs. Growing up between New Zealand and South Korea, I developed a deep connection to fish out of water narratives: stories of adaptation, survival, and finding belonging in unfamiliar places.

After earning my BFA in Film and Animation from Konkuk University, I began my career directing commercials and music videos before pursuing my MFA at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts, where I blended bold genre storytelling with emotional depth.

Over the past 12 years, I’ve written and directed 26 short films and 9 vertical series, often using dream logic, surrealism, and the supernatural to explore social issues. Recent works like Rope from Heaven (2025), To Mom (2020), and Kill Yourself to Sleep (2021) center underrepresented voices through emotionally grounded storytelling. I also recently co-directed my first feature, A Jack & Lou: Gangster Love Story (2025), currently on the festival circuit.

My latest short, Comet Orphan (2025), is a 20-minute sci-fi mockumentary about a woman who believes she’s an alien and is desperate to launch herself into space. Blending fantasy, comedy, and social satire, the film was presented at the Cannes Short Film Corner as part of the Marché du Film. It continues my mission to tell stories that entertain while challenging how we see the world and ourselves.
